Opera

Cristian Guzman Prada, a talented Colombian pianist and music director, has performed and participated in over thirteen full opera productions as rehearsal pianist and even as music director for some of them.

Guzman has made significant appearances in the world of opera, including an opera gala performance at Carnegie Hall alongside emerging opera artists from all over the US. Thanks to his rich experience in opera programs in Colombia and in the US, Cristian was presented with a remarkable opportunity to work with AVA's summer opera program, where he was assigned as rehearsal pianist for Puccini's Il Trittico — "Il tabarro," "Gianni Schicchi," and "Suor Angelica."

In 2023, he took on the roles of rehearsal pianist and synth programmer for Puccini's Tosca, as well as music director for Menotti's "The Telephone" and "The Old Maid and the Thief," showcasing his artistry and talent in the world of opera. In this opportunity, Maestro Guzman had the fortune to collaborate with renowned artist Victoria Livengood in the production of "The Consul" by Menotti and alongside other Metropolitan Opera subs.

Most recently, in December 2025, Maestro Guzman served as rehearsal pianist for Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi," produced by Operativo Houston, a vibrant company dedicated to bringing opera to new audiences across the city. Continuing into 2026, he has joined Opera in the Heights as rehearsal pianist for Donizetti's beloved comedy "Don Pasquale," further solidifying his role as a professional artist in the city and in the world of opera.

Theater

During the last five years, Maestro Guzman has gained valuable experience as a music director in the musical theater world, collaborating with the Lonestar Community College network.

He has also participated as rehearsal pianist and assistant director on various musical productions from different institutions and schools throughout the Houston area.
